Our Mission

The World Languages Department at Norton High School enhances linguistic and cultural competencies while cultivating a life-long pursuit of languages and cultures. We believe all students are capable of acquiring a second language. We work collaboratively to build curricula around themes relevant to our students, while also promoting proficiency in accordance with the ACTFL (American Council for the Teaching of Foreign Languages) standards. By incorporating the interests of our students, we hope to help them build meaningful intercultural connections both inside and outside of the classroom. At the end of their four years here in Norton, our goal is for students “to learn from and work collaboratively with individuals representing diverse cultures, religions and lifestyles in a spirit of mutual respect and open dialogue in personal, work, and community contexts” (Portrait of a Norton Graduate).
